Partnerships & Communications Senior Manager

Organisation Description

Amazi Water is the primary in-country partner for clean water projects in Burundi, working to expand sustainable access to safe water nationwide. The organization collaborates closely with local communities, government entities, and international partners to design and implement long-term water solutions.

Amazi Water is helping to develop a national water strategy that aims to provide sustainable access to clean water in every community by the end of 2028. Our team members contribute directly to improving public health, strengthening community resilience, and advancing inclusive development across Burundi.

Role Description 

The Partnerships & Communications Senior Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Bujumbura. This role is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and managing relationships with institutional donors, foundations, corporations, government bodies, and implementing partners.

The position involves designing partnership strategies, preparing proposals, concept notes, and reports, and ensuring timely, accurate communication with stakeholders.

The Senior Manager will lead strategic communications, including developing key messages, overseeing digital channels, coordinating media outreach, and producing stories and materials that highlight Amazi Water’s impact.

Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with program teams to gather data and narratives, managing events and visits, supporting advocacy efforts, and ensuring consistent, values-driven branding across all internal and external communications.

The role also includes line management of relevant team members, coordination with senior leadership on strategy, and contributing to organizational planning and learning.

Qualifications

• Lead the development and management of strategic partnerships with donors, NGOs, government institutions, private sector actors, and other key stakeholders.

• Identify, cultivate, and secure partnership, funding, and collaboration opportunities that advance Amazi Water's mission and strategic objectives.

• Serve as the primary relationship manager for key partners, ensuring strong engagement, accountability, and long-term collaboration.

• Provide strategic oversight of project coordination, ensuring timely implementation, reporting, and delivery of partner commitments.

• Monitor project performance, risks, and stakeholder expectations, ensuring effective communication and follow-up across departments.

• Support the development and execution of partnership agreements, MoUs, and collaborative initiatives.

• Lead Amazi Water's external communications and visibility efforts, ensuring consistent, compelling, and professional representation of the organization's impact.

• Oversee the development of high-quality reports, success stories, presentations, videos, photography, and other communication assets.

• Strengthen donor and partner engagement through strategic communications, impact reporting, and stakeholder updates.

• Represent Amazi Water in national forums, technical working groups, government engagements, and sector platforms.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with sector leaders, development partners, and peer organizations to enhance collaboration and influence.

• Identify opportunities for collective action, advocacy, and strategic positioning within the WASH and development sectors.

• Lead the planning and coordination of donor, partner and stakeholder visits to ensure meaningful engagement and a positive experience.

• Provide strategic oversight of organizational data, reporting, and knowledge management systems to support informed decision-making and accountability.

• Ensure data quality, integrity, accessibility, and compliance with donor and organizational reporting requirements.

• Support senior leadership engagement with government ministries, agencies, and local authorities to strengthen partnerships and regulatory compliance.

• Coordinate the preparation of high-quality briefing notes, strategic reports, presentations, and stakeholder correspondence for executive leadership.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the Communications, Coordination, GIS, and Data Management teams to achieve high performance and continuous improvement.

• Establish departmental objectives, monitor performance, and drive a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

Strengthen organizational systems, processes, and team capacity to support Amazi Water's long-term growth and sustainability.

Role Requirements & Experience

Academic Qualifications

· Bachelor's Degree in International Development, Communications, Project Management, Public Administration, International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies, Business Administration, or a related field.

· Master's Degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred.

Working Experience

· Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in partnerships, stakeholder engagement, communications, donor relations, or project management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or management role.

· Demonstrated experience working with NGOs, INGOs, donors, government institutions, UN agencies, and other development partners.

· Strong experience leading cross-functional projects, coordinating implementation plans, and overseeing reporting and accountability processes.

· Experience leading organizational communications, visibility initiatives, donor reporting, and external engagement strategies.

Skills Required

· Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage and build credibility with diverse stakeholders.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and modern communication and project management tools.

· Professional fluency in English, French, and Kirundi, both written and spoken.

· Valid driver's license and willingness to travel regularly throughout Burundi.
